City to Host Female-Only Referee Course in September

Southwell City FC is excited to announce that we will be hosting a female-only FA Referee Course on Thursday, 12th September from 6pm-9pm (classroom session) and Sunday, 15th September from 9am-5pm (practical and classroom session) at our home clubhouse in Brinkley.

This course, organised by the Nottinghamshire FA, is a fantastic opportunity for girls and women interested in becoming licensed grassroots football referees. It is the only female-only course being offered by Notts FA in their upcoming series of referee training.

The FA Referee Course equips new referees with the key skills and knowledge needed to referee grassroots 7v7, 9v9 and 11v11 matches safely and effectively. It involves:

  • 11 hours of face-to-face training mixing classroom and on-pitch practical sessions
  • Online modules on the Laws of the Game and safeguarding
  • Refereeing 5 matches to complete the qualification

During the face-to-face training, participants will learn how to:

  • Communicate decisions effectively
  • Manage restarts like kick-offs, free kicks, and throw-ins
  • Position yourself as the referee and assistant referee
  • Recognise fouls and misconduct
  • Issue cautions and learn sending off techniques
  • Deal with inappropriate behaviour
  • Build rapport with players and coaches

After completing the course and 5 match assessments, newly qualified referees are invited to a ‘call-back’ celebration where they receive their official certificate and county FA referee badge. Ongoing training and development opportunities are then available as you progress in your refereeing career.

We encourage all females aged 14 and over who love football to consider taking this step into refereeing. To register for the 12th and 15th September course at Southwell City FC’s Brinkley clubhouse, visit the Notts FA booking page in order to reserve a place. The cost of the course is £130 per person. (For residents of Newark & Sherwood, it may be possible to claim 50% of the cost as funded support from Active4Today)

Help grow the women’s game and become a qualified referee with Southwell City FC and Nottinghamshire FA! If you have any questions, please message us and we will get back to you straight away.
