We’re delighted to announce that Southwell City has been nominated for the Newark and Sherwood Community and Sport Awards 2024 in the “Creating Change for Sport and Physical Activity Award” category. This nomination recognises our pan-disability football project, which aims to make the sport accessible to players with sensory, learning, or physical disabilities.
Our initiative kicked off with an open day on 28 April 2024, welcoming players of all ages and abilities to enjoy football in a safe, inclusive environment. Led by coaches Richard Berridge and Rich Wilson, the event embodied our club’s commitment to community engagement and inclusivity.
Club Chairman John Cunningham said: “We’re honoured to be recognised for our efforts to make football more accessible. This project reflects Southwell City’s dedication to serving all community members. The positive response has been heartening, and we’re excited about the project’s growth potential.”
The awards ceremony will take place on 20 September at The Renaissance at Kelham Hall in Newark, celebrating individuals and organisations that have significantly contributed to community and sports development in our district.
We’re grateful to everyone who has supported this initiative – from our coaches and volunteers to the enthusiastic participants and their families. This nomination is a shared achievement reflecting our club’s collaborative spirit.
Regardless of the outcome, we’re committed to expanding our inclusive football programme. We believe this project is just the beginning of making sports more accessible for everyone in our community.
If you’re interested in getting involved with our pan-disability football project, we’d love to hear from you. Please email us at [email protected] for more information.
