City Progress In Cup

A makeshift City line-up took on Welbeck Lions this afternoon in the Notts FA Saturday Senior Cup. Despite a below par performance from the team, they progress to the next round courtesy of goals from Law and Nussey (Pen).

It was a memorable afternoon though for 16 year old, Ben Napier who came on as a substitute and made his senior debut for City today. (Pictured above)

Match Stats can be found here.

Earlier in the week, City strengthened their grip on the top of the Notts Senior League Premier Division table with an 8-1 demolishing of Bilborough Town at the Memorial Ground.  This is now the third time the team have scored eight in a match this season.

Goalscorers were: Calum Law (3), Blair Bryant (2), Ant Brown and Oliver Clarke.

In the Pink City Hit Eight

Weekend Roundup (13th / 14th October)
City stay top of the Premier Division. Reserves win against Basford. Ladies beat Mansfield Town Development.

FIRST TEAM

City bounced back in true style on Saturday. After last weekend’s first defeat of the season, the team hit eight goals against Attenborough to record an easy away win. At the same time, close rivals Awsworth Villa were only able to draw at home to Bingham Town. This meant that City were able to extend their lead at the top of the NSL Premier to two points.

Scorers for City were Ewan Hill (3) Calum Law (2) and Oliver Clarke (2). The other highlight of the day was some questionable footwear, proudly worn by George Caudwell!

RESERVES

It was also a great afternoon for our reserves on Saturday. A 1-0 home win over high-flying Basford Community moves City up to 4th in the NSL Division 1. Tom Tyler was the scorer of the only goal of the game.

LADIES

The Ladies team rounded off a great weekend for our Senior teams with a 4-2 league win, away at Mansfield Town Development. Jessica Wright opened the scoring after 17 minutes. Caitlin Dickinson made it 2-0 after 32 minutes. A third city goal came courtesy of Hannah Stredder in the 63rd minutes and Wright made sure of victory in the 89th minute with her second goal of the game. A great result!

City Stay Top Despite Defeat

Weekend Roundup (6th / 7th October)
City stay top of the Premier Division. Reserves win at Mansfield. Ladies beat Bingham Town.

FIRST TEAM

Southwell City’s unbeaten start to the season was finally brought to an end on Saturday, following a 0-2 home defeat to Awsworth Villa. City never really got going on wet afternoon and Villa scored twice before half-time to put City in a position they could never get back from.

Congratulations to Villa who were deserved victors on the day. City remain top of the Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division, ahead of Villa on goal difference.

The only other unbeaten team in the league, Stapleford Town, also lost on Saturday. Surprisingly, they were beaten 1-0 at Bingham Town.

RESERVES

A great result for our reserves on Saturday. They were visiting Mansfield Hosiery Mills and will be pleased with a fantastic 2-1 away victory. City move up to 5th in the Notts Senior League Division One.

LADIES

SCFC Ladies were at home to Bingham Town Ladies on Sunday morning. The team put in a great performance to record a 3-0 win with goals from Jessica Wright (30 minutes), Chloe Markham (36 minutes) and Caitlin Dickinson (53 minutes). A great performance from Abby Roper won her the Player of the Match award. The win moves the ladies up to 5th place in the Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies Football League.

Impressive City Go Top

A fine display from Southwell City saw the team record a 4-0 league victory today, away at Bilborough Town. Scorers this afternoon were Clarke, Gleeson, Law & Hill. Man Of The Match was Clarke, who had an excellent game.

City has now won all six Nottinghamshire Senior League Premier Division fixtures this season. The team sit at the top of the league table, two points clear of Eastwood Development, who are in second.

Next up, Stripes are away at league rivals Awsworth Villa in the County Cup. The match is a 2.30pm kick off, taking place at: The Shilo, NG16 2SY.

U16 Girls Bow Out In Style

After 9 years together and 8 seasons playing in the Notts Girls & Ladies League, Southwell City U16 Girls have played their final game.  And what a game it was!

On Sunday 13th May the team played in the Notts Girls & Ladies League Cup Final at Calverton Miners Welfare.  After a league campaign that saw the team finish in joint fourth with Mickleover Sports all our hopes were riding on our final game of the season against Sandiacre Town.  After a tough route in to the final which included a 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest Ladies, a 3-0 win over Sherwood Youth and a semi final v Bingham Town which went to penalties, we were all set for our big day.  As league runners up, Sandiacre were always going to be hard opposition to beat.  In fact Sandiacre were a team we had never beaten in any league campaign and they themselves were only beaten once during the season by the eventual league winners.  I have to say, much of the day passed in a blur of joy.  We scored two brilliant goals in the first half, thanks to Chante Dixon and Jessica Wright, to leave Sandiacre reeling.  After half time Sandiacre came out fighting and we found ourselves pegged in our own half for much of the second half.  With a superb performance by our defence and keeper, Rachael Alvey, we managed to hold off Sandiacre for long periods of time.  Sandiacre eventually scored after some relentless attacking but a supreme effort from all the Southwell players saw us finish as 2-1 winners when the final whistle was blown.  It really was a fitting end to the team’s final game.

With a small squad of 12 players playing 11-a-side football the decision was made to fold the team at the end of the 2017/18 season.  A lot of the girls will continue to play football either with our own Southwell City Ladies team or other local teams.  Working with the team over the seasons has been an absolute pleasure and extremely rewarding.  I wish them all the best on their future football endeavours.

The team formed many years ago as a result of Southwell City’s successful girls recruitment program.  Southwell City coaches, who are all DBS checked, FA qualified and first aid trained, go in to local schools during the summer term and run after school taster sessions.  This culminates in a Girls Inter School Tournament held on the Memorial Ground in Southwell where the girls get to experience playing in a team under match conditions with referees.  The success of this program has seen Southwell City have girls teams from U9 to Ladies playing in the Notts Girls and Ladies League.  Should you be interested in joining a team please contact our Girls Development Officer Sven Richards at [email protected] or 07818 374 336.

5 out of 5 for City

Southwell City’s amazing start to the season continued on Saturday. The first team played host to Sandiacre Town and produced another impressive display, running out 3-0 winners at the Memorial Ground. Ant Brown, Calum Law and Robert Haigh scored City’s goals. City also missed a penalty.

City have now won all five of their Nottinghamshire Senior League fixtures, scoring 18 goals and conceding just 3. They currently sit second in the table, behind Awsworth Villa on goals difference.

Next up for City is an away trip to Bilborough Town on Saturday.

Reserves Games Abandoned

On a sadder note, our reserve team fixture at Kimberley Miners Welfare had to be abandoned after City player, Huw Plume, broke his leg. The game was evenly poised at 1-1 when the game was stopped. The club sends out its best wishes to Huw and wishes him a speedy recovery.

Ladies Debut

Southwell City Ladies open their Nottinghamshire Girls and Ladies Football League campaign today with a match against Clifton All Whites Ladies at the Memorial Ground. More news on this opening game of the season will follow.
