Take The Team Out For Pizza

A quick update on the Centenary Ground renovations and your chance to win your team its own Pizza Party at Brinkley!

Centenary Ground Update

Over the summer work will continue improving the Centenary Ground at Brinkley. After the clubhouse redevelopment, attention will now turn to the pitches, ready for next season. Our first job is the creation of a new Pitch 1. This will be an 11-a-side pitch. We will begin levelling and seeding the pitch shortly and, once this is done, perimeter fencing will be installed to create an enclosed playing area.

Putting a fence around the new main pitch has two big advantages. As well as creating a more enjoyable experience for both players and spectators, it also allows us to generate revenue for the club by selling advertising space. We are planning for the pitch to be ready for playing on by October and selling adverts before then will help us to cover some of the considerable cost of this next stage.

How You Can Help

The cost of advertising at Brinkley next season starts at just £150. For any local business looking to raise its profile locally and to show support for the club, we believe that this is great value.

We are now asking all of our managers to make their parents/players aware of this opportunity, as many will work within local businesses that would benefit from this kind of exposure.

We have 31 City teams registered for next season and we are asking each team to try and sell two boards. If we can achieve this bare minimum, that would raise nearly £10,000 for the club!

Win A Pizza Party for Your Team

We want to make this a bit of fun so we will offer a free Pizza Party at Brinkley for any junior team that sells just 10 banners between now and the end of July. We will supply the pizza and the clubhouse on the day of your choosing. Your players will have a great time and you will be supporting the club as well. What better incentive could you want. (We will also let every other team know when you do it!)

Note: Don’t be disheartened if your team can’t quite sell 10 adverts before July 31st. We will also be giving out some mystery prizes for teams that sell at least 5 advertising spots between now and the end of the promotional period. 😊

Feel free to share this information with anybody you know who wants to support the club. Jonny Upton will be taking the orders. Please contact him through the club WhatsApp if you have any questions. Or email [email protected].

Good Luck!

50 Years Ago This Month

50 years ago this month, City were crowned Champions of the Notts Alliance Division 1 after a fantastic 1970/71 season. This great team photo was taken shortly after the team was presented with the trophy in May 1971. In the background of the photo you will see the old clubhouse on the War Memorial Recreation Ground.

Over a half of a century later, it is fitting that we are able to look back at this snapshot in time and to recognise a great City team.

City Goalkeepers in Safe Hands

The future of Southwell City’s young goalkeeping talent looks in safe hands — thanks to professional goalie Scott Loach.

Scott started playing football as a child for Southwell and has since gone on to make a career between the sticks. As well as representing England at U21 level, Scott has also played for numerous league teams including Watford, Ipswich, Notts County and Bradford City.

Coaching has always been an interest of Scott’s and he is now developing this side of his game by helping to bring on new generations of local goalkeepers.

As part of Southwell City commitment to offering the best possible coaching to its young footballers, Scott will be running training sessions with Southwell City goalkeepers of all ages in April. This is in addition to extra training sessions for all City players which are being organised in partnership with former Arsenal player, Lee Canoville.

Next month, Scott will be launching his own goalkeeping school for boy and girls of all ages and abilities. The first session, which is free, takes place at the Memorial Ground in Southwell on May 12th. To book a spot, or to find out more, email [email protected].
