Under 18’s End 2021 in Style

Southwell City U18’s football team finished 2021 in style, winning their last six games of the year, scoring 29 goals in the process and conceding just 7. The team deserved to finish on a high after some great performances, which also saw them progress through two rounds of the cup.

Many of the lads in the team are now also playing for the club’s new Under 21 team and are on the verge of getting experience of adult football with the first team. For one or two of the players, it will be a real milestone when they do make their senior debuts as they will have been with the club since they were just 7 years old. A fantastic achievement!

Under 9’s
One of the clubs younger teams, the Under 9’s boys, are in desperate need of a manager to allow the team to enter the league and play regular matches. Currently they are attending training sessions run by one of the club’s coaches. However they now need a willing parent that would be able to take the team under his or her wing. Full training will be given to any volunteer, including FA Coach training, safeguarding and first aid. Please contact Adrian Purdy ([email protected]) in the first instance, if you think that could be the next Pep Guardiola of junior football!

Clubhouse Opportunity

The football club is looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) who might be interested in helping us to run and develop our two clubhouses at the Memorial Ground and Brinkley. This is a key role for the football club as we would like to improve the offer at both clubhouses, on match days and outside of these times.

The ideal candidate would be able to:

  • Organise staffing of both venues
  • Manage the club’s food and drink offer
  • Identify and develop new products and services to enhance visitor experience and to drive profitable sales
  • Manage all aspects of stock control/management
  • Take bookings for clubhouse events and to promote the venue for community use

We realise that this is a big role but it might be of interest for somebody who enjoys the hospitality industry and has a bit of time on their hands.

Alternatively we would also be interested to talk with anybody that might want to run this as a separate business, in partnership with the football club.

If you are interested to discuss the opportunity, please contact John Cunningham ([email protected] /  phone: 07305 311 354) to find out more.

Originally scheduled to take place on Becket’s Field, the game was player on the War Memorial Recreation Ground pitch. As can be seen from the scribbled, one page programme, City went on to win the match 1-0.

It was not until the 23rd of February 1980 that the club would start to issue regular matchday programme for first team matches.

City were dominant from start to finish and the score could have easily been in double figures! Scorers Henry Eastgate and Robson Hazard both ended up with hat tricks in an impressive City display. An encouraging start indeed for Cal Law in his role as manager of the new team.

New Public Access Defibrillator

public access defibrillator

A new public access defibrillator has been fitted outside of the clubhouse at the War Memorial Recreation Ground.  The new device has been provided by Richard Moyses & Julie Pitchford, in memory of their late father Peter, who had a long association with the football club.

Having a public access defibrillator available in an emergency can be lifesaving, especially in rural areas where ambulance response times may be longer. By using a defibrillator on someone within three minutes of them going into cardiac arrest, their chance of survival is increased to around 75 per cent.

The defibrillator is situated on the outside wall of the clubhouse, within easy reach of all pitches. It is also well positioned should it be needed in an emergency, at the tennis or bowls clubs, scouts or the playpark.

Take The Team Out For Pizza

A quick update on the Centenary Ground renovations and your chance to win your team its own Pizza Party at Brinkley!

Centenary Ground Update

Over the summer work will continue improving the Centenary Ground at Brinkley. After the clubhouse redevelopment, attention will now turn to the pitches, ready for next season. Our first job is the creation of a new Pitch 1. This will be an 11-a-side pitch. We will begin levelling and seeding the pitch shortly and, once this is done, perimeter fencing will be installed to create an enclosed playing area.

Putting a fence around the new main pitch has two big advantages. As well as creating a more enjoyable experience for both players and spectators, it also allows us to generate revenue for the club by selling advertising space. We are planning for the pitch to be ready for playing on by October and selling adverts before then will help us to cover some of the considerable cost of this next stage.

How You Can Help

The cost of advertising at Brinkley next season starts at just £150. For any local business looking to raise its profile locally and to show support for the club, we believe that this is great value.

We are now asking all of our managers to make their parents/players aware of this opportunity, as many will work within local businesses that would benefit from this kind of exposure.

We have 31 City teams registered for next season and we are asking each team to try and sell two boards. If we can achieve this bare minimum, that would raise nearly £10,000 for the club!

Win A Pizza Party for Your Team

We want to make this a bit of fun so we will offer a free Pizza Party at Brinkley for any junior team that sells just 10 banners between now and the end of July. We will supply the pizza and the clubhouse on the day of your choosing. Your players will have a great time and you will be supporting the club as well. What better incentive could you want. (We will also let every other team know when you do it!)

Note: Don’t be disheartened if your team can’t quite sell 10 adverts before July 31st. We will also be giving out some mystery prizes for teams that sell at least 5 advertising spots between now and the end of the promotional period. 😊

Start Now!

Feel free to share this information with anybody you know who wants to support the club. Jonny Upton will be taking the orders. Please contact him through the club WhatsApp if you have any questions. Or email [email protected].

Good Luck!
