Southwell City Swifts Hit Their Goal

The U9 boys football team want to say a massive thank you to everyone that’s helped them with their recent fundraising effort.

The team were in desperate need of essential items to keep them warm and prepare them for games. So, fundraising began last season and recently they smashed their target by raising a whopping £1,060 and there’s no stopping them now.

It’s all been made possible by the generosity of parents, grandparents, EDF Energy and a few local businesses including Fun:Bikes, eVenture, Evolution Homes and Michon. So now the Swifts look so slick and professional in their new branded winter coats, fleeces, and zebra socks!

And it’s all paying off, the boys are unbeaten in 9 games and are also through to the Semi Finals of the U9 Sat Challenge Trophy on 22 April. Head Coach Peter Beardsley said “We’re all so proud of the boys, they’re going from strength to strength each week and they’re made up with their new gear and training kit.”

Plans for the War Memorial Ground

Now that the men’s senior team is based at Brinkley, the pitches at the War Memorial Ground are being used primarily by the club’s youngest players. The relocation of the 5 and 7-a-side football pitches in front of the clubhouse has been a great success and has helped to create an enjoyable atmosphere in the park when the teams are playing every weekend.

The cafe, inside the clubhouse is thriving and has become a real attraction for visitors to the park, ably managed by Nellie (a.k.a. Emily) and her helpers. All junior teams are now invited to have free Chip Cobs after matches, which certainly helps with team spirit!

Thanks to Southwell Town Council, the football club has received approval to build a new goal storage facility at the ground, to replace the rundown block that currently exists.
Once built, the club will be looking to purchase new foldable goals. These will be easier to store and quicker to assemble than the current ones. This improvement is something that we are sure that all our coaches will be pleased to see happen!

Another problem that the club is looking to solve is that of parking. Always an issue when games are being played, the club will be issuing advice to visiting teams before they arrive to try and reduce the number of cars each weekend.

The girls section of Southwell City FC is now in a position where it can offer organised football to girls from the age of 6 through to 16 years of age. The club has begun preparation to offer football in Southwell and the surrounding areas to all women aged 16+ with the creation of a women’s team for the 2023/24. As well as expansion on the pitch. Southwell City FC girls section is aiming to introduce more female coaches within its ranks. This was kick started on Sun 22nd January with several girls getting together to complete their ‘EE Playmaker by England Football’ coaching award, kickstarting their coaching journeys. The weekend was successful with a total of 13 girls successfully completing their coaching award. The girls will then be aiming to complete the next level of coaching badges within the next 2 years. Subs Frozen for 2022/23 Season

No Increase in Subs for Junior Members

Times are tough right now. We are all facing unprecedented cost rises, whether it be food prices, utility bills or the cost of materials, and these continue to impact the football club as they do each individual.

However, the football club committee has agreed that for the new 2022/23 season, we’re going to keep monthly subs flat. Despite all of the pressures we’re facing, and including further improvements to both of our grounds to follow, as a community club, we want to do what we can to help.

Free Chip Cobs For Junior Players

As promised earlier this year, we are now offering free Chips Cobs at the Memorial Ground Clubhouse as an after-match treat for all Southwell City players.

Primarily we think that this will appeal to younger players, so apologies for any older ones that play at Brinkley and might feel left out (something for the future maybe …)

Managers should use the booking form for orders which must be placed before 9.00 am on the Wednesday before each weekend’s games, allowing Emily time to order sufficient stock.

The Chip booking form will be made available every Sunday at 6 pm. It will close at 9.00 am the following Wednesday. Chip bookings will need to be made during that period for games on the following Saturday or Sunday. Please make sure you book during this period, to avoid disappointment, as later bookings will not be possible

SCFC Spring Training Times

Below are the spring/summer training times for the Memorial Ground. With the club now having more teams than ever, and with some days that are very congested, we have had to tweak some of the times to fit everybody in. Apologies if this does mean that your time has shifted slightly.

There are a lot of changes taking place at the MG right now. These are long-term changes that will benefit all of the younger teams and which will allow us more flexibility over training times going forward. In the short-term though it really does help if coaches can fit around this plan. Your cooperation is genuinely appreciated.

Memorial Ground Improvements

Hi everyone

Memorial Ground Improvements

I just wanted to bring you all up to speed on some exciting new developments taking place at the Memorial Ground in April.

As many will know, with the senior teams moving to Brinkley the aim has always been to develop the Memorial Ground into our hub for junior football for 5, 7 and 9-a-side teams.

The first stage of this process will begin on Saturday 23rd April, when we start moving 5 and 7-a-side pitches in front of the clubhouse, onto what was the main first team pitch. Unfortunately the grass is not in great condition right now, and will need treatment over the summer, but we should be ready to open at least two 5-a-side pitches on this date.

The move to the new pitches ties in with work being carried out on the clubhouse. We have ripped the kitchen out and have refitted the facilities to allow Nellie at the Park to move in and take charge of all of our matchday catering.

From the 23rd, Nellie will be offering barista coffee, other hot drinks, and hot food, such as bacon and sausage cobs. She will be open all day on match days and possibly on some training nights.

Team managers will also be pleased to hear that we will now also be offering complimentary hospitality for home and away teams on match days. Free chip cobs will be available for all teams after games. We are sure all of our young players will love this after match treat. And you can invite the away team along too. We will set up a simple booking system for you to use to take advantage of this new facility.

Another new development will be Friday Night Football, which we hope to introduce when the weather is nice over the summer. The plan is to open the clubhouse, lay on some football for the kids, and open the bar and BBQ for the adults. More to come on this shortly.

Finally, we are back to training on grass next week. With new teams coming through, and a big demand for pitch use, we are having to shuffle training times about a tiny bit to fit everybody in. I will publish the timetable over the weekend, but we do ask that managers are flexible and will go along with the plan. As you can see, the exec committee is working hard to offer a great experience for players, coaches and parents when they come down to the MG. We hope that all managers will work with us to make this club one that we are all proud of.

Have a great weekend,

John
On behalf of the Southwell City Exec Committee
